Volunteer Spotlight: Meet Jaime

At Story Planet, we rely on our volunteers to provide the individualized attention our students need. In a classroom where skills and needs vary greatly, having a dedicated mentor can make all the difference. It takes a special kind of person to help kids’ stories take flight, and we’re lucky to have volunteers who bring both heart and craft to our workshops!

Meet Jaime, a recent graduate of OCAD’s Illustration program, who is using her talents to inspire the next generation of creators.

Bridging Art & Education

For Jaime, art and writing go hand in hand. As she prepares to apply to Teachers College next year, she’s gaining experience in the field and exploring ways to connect art and education.

“Story Planet stood out to me because of its emphasis on storytelling and its meaningful approach to helping students express themselves creatively. I was especially drawn to the supportive environment and the opportunity to make a positive impact on children through both learning and imagination.”

Impact Beyond the Page

In the classroom, Jaime helps facilitate activities, drawing on her art background to support students as they develop their story ideas and writing. Whether it’s sketching out a character or refining a plot point, her presence gives students the one-on-one support they need to succeed.

“I especially enjoy building relationships with the students and watching their confidence grow over time. It feels rewarding to be involved in something I’m passionate about while also helping and connecting with students.”

Off the Clock: Immersive Reads

When she isn’t in a workshop, Jaime is likely immersed in a book by her favourite author, Taylor Jenkins Reid, whose novels explore identity and ambition.

Thank you, Jaime, for bringing your enthusiasm and kindness to our students and workshops!
