The Wonderful Creations of WorldMaker
By Jacklyn Taccogna
WorldMaker is back for Fall 2025! This four-week workshop guides students through the creation of an imaginary world as the students work collaboratively to imagine a fictional place, the beings who inhabit it, and an event that impacts the whole world. Students’ imaginations get to run free and anything is possible!
Last year, students in the program created maps of their worlds and invented holidays, wildlife, sights, and places to eat. Chow down at Cutie Pie Chicken, famous for pink dyed chicken with pink Coca-Cola and pink fries. Visit Dragon Castle, home to fire-breathing magical dragons, or celebrate Crazy Day, a silly, topsy-turvy day where everyone acts ca-raaaazy and more.
After creating their worlds, the students decided on the “big thing” that happened, changing life there forever. The planet Starlight dealt with a zombie infection that they managed to fight off thanks to President and Head Doctor Mr. Gabla Gabla, who found a cure just in time. In The Double World, the Sacred Tree, which connects the upper and under world, perished, leaving the people of both lands scared and saddened by the death of their tree.
Students wrote about their characters and how they dealt with the events. Their stories were collected and published in a Travel Guide to their world.
The possibilities are endless in Story Planet’s Worldmaker program!
