Summer at Story Planet: Creativity, Comics, and Camera Magic in Regent Park

This summer, Story Planet brought creativity to life in Regent Park with two free, action-packed camps that had kids writing, drawing, filming, and laughing their way through July and August.

Our first camp was all about comics. Young artists spent the week dreaming up bold characters, wild storylines, and colourful worlds—and it all came together in a student-led Comic Con, where families came to browse, celebrate, and cheer on their kids’ imaginative creations.

The second camp dove into the world of media and filmmaking. From brainstorming scripts to acting, filming, and editing, campers worked together to produce three original short films. The camp wrapped up with a showcase for parents and caregivers, where everyone got to experience the premieres on the big screen.

Both camps were powered by our incredible summer team—including two former Story Planet kids who returned as Counselors-in-Training! Alongside writing and art-making, campers went on field trips, played games outside, and enjoyed a balance of creativity and fun every day.

We’re so proud of what our campers accomplished this summer, and we’re thrilled to share their creativity with you. Watch the three short films created during our Media Camp—you won’t want to miss them!

  • “My son loves storytelling and he’s an avid reader, but he never read comics. So attending this camp made him love comics too, made him confident that he can make his own comic. He felt really excited and loved being here every day. Thank you for all the love, teachers.”

  • “[Everyone] was very friendly and truly created the environment for easy learning. A whole hearted thank you to all. You are simply awesome!”
